we're planning to have a short visit to japan sometime in 2014... arrival will be at osaka (KIX).

Here are some of our questions.

  1. from OSA (KIX) to downtown osaka (round trip) can we use JR pass ?
  2. from downtown OSA to Universal Studios (round trip) can we use JR pass ?
  3. from OSA (KIX) to tokyo disneyland and disneysea (round trip) can we use JR pass ?

understand that $284 per pax is the fare of JR pass for 7 days unlimited use.

Also if you can provide the route going to Universal Studios, Disneyland, Disneysea and Sanrio (Puroland Harmonyland)

thanks for your kind assistance

Hi there,

The JR pass can be used to travel to all of the above places, including travel to and from the Airport and Disneyland Tokyo.

Just to confirm, will you be making a return back to KIX? If so than the JR Pass will help you make some very nice savings, as you can also use it on the local JR network in Osaka.

It's hard to give you a route since I don't know where you will be staying but please refer to the below websites on how to access each park.
You can find more information on how to access Universal Studios here,

Here's how to access the Tokyo Disney resort parks and

please refer to this website on how to access Puroland.

Best regards,
Daniel

thank you daniel-san,

yes will be returning to KIX. Arrival and departing to KIX

our trip will be very short about 5 days, planning to have 2 days in Tokyo and 2 days in Osaka.

Upon arrival to Osaka (KIX) around 8pm, will there be train available going to Tokyo nearby hotel ?
was thinking to go directly to Tokyo upon arrival and spend 2 days then back to Osaka for another 2 days
as this will be our departure area going back to our origin.

Understand that JR pass can be used to osa-tyo and vice versa including local network in Osaka.
how about in Tokyo ?

best regards,
becky

Hi Becky,

Unfortunately there won't be any trains departing to Tokyo after 8 p.m. (the last possible connection departs at 19:16). If you do want to go to Tokyo quickly, why not travel to Shin-Osaka (the bullet train station for Osaka) and take an early morning train to Tokyo. The ride is only 140-160 minutes so you will have most of the day to enjoy Tokyo, you could even hit Disneyland.

The JR Pass can be used on both the local JR network in Tokyo and Osaka. Both networks are very extensive and cover the major part of each city.

Let me know if I can help with anything else!

Hi Becky.

Actually Namba / Shinsaibashi, Umeda / Amagasaki and Kyobashi are all very good places to stay at. My personal preference would go to Namba / Shinsaibashi because this is the real heart of Osaka. Although it is easier to access Universal city if you stay around Osaka station (Umeda) because there's a direct train connection.

It's hard to give you specific hotel recommendations because I usually travel alone or with different company. When you are in Tokyo, I would recommend staying around Ueno. This is a very friendly area and offers great access to the rest of Tokyo (and Disneyland) with the JR.

Enjoy Japan!

Hi Bekikang,

1.) Yes, as far as I can see all places can be reached by JR.

2.) Here is an example router from Namba (near Nankai hotel) to Universal city.

3.) Travel from Osaka station to Kyoto is only 29 minutes so you certainly could make a day trip to Kyoto if you wish. I'd certainly recommend it!

4.) Both are great! Shinjuku really has the feel of a metropolis while Ueno retains a bit of the old Tokyo.

5.) Yes Disney land is covered but you may have to use additional transport to Puroland. Here's more on how to access Puroland.

Take care!
Daniel

hello again daniel-san,

plan to get only ordinary JR pass, do we need to make seat reservation everytime ?
what will happen if we did not make seat reservation ? can we still allowed to ride ?
how to make seat reservation ?

we are not familiar with the JR stations both in osaka and tokyo where we could check ?
same with the train schedule ?

how do we know or classify JR trains ? Is the name written on the train or what ?
Any marks or something written that we can distinguish ?
sorry but kinda worried if we get into the wrong train ie NOZOMI and MIZUHO.

thanks for your great help.

Hi and good evening :)

Making seat reservations is recommended (but not required). Every train has reserved and non reserved seats, you can board a train at any time and just take a non reserved seat. More about making seat reservations can be found on our blog post. http://www.jrpass.com/blogs/reserving-seats-boarding-the-bullet-train

In Japan there are 2 classes of train. Green Class, which is 1st class and Ordinary class which is 2nd class. Green cars are marked with a Green Sign so you can't miss them. Also all trains have a name on them such as Hikari or Nozomi, this is also displayed on the station platform. You can't miss it!

Best!
Daniel

furthermore, if we dont have train pass (JR pass) can we still use JR lines ?
is JR lines accessible only for those with JR pass ? or we can buy tickets in JR lines for each journey ?

or we can only used Nankai if no JR pass ?

Sorry for too many questions.

Of course you can use JR Lines without the pass, just buy a normal ticket before departure.

Enjoy Japan!
