Hi there I am staying in Hakone and want to travel back to Tokyo on Saturday. I have a JR pass but am worried that its Obon next week and there is a storm on the way the trains could be full. My hotel have told me I have to travel all the way to Odawara to check if there are seats or to book seats (that's a 2 hour 2000 yen round trip)? Isnt there a way I can check availability or even better book online (or book on the telephone?)? What should I do?
Travelling this saturday
Hi there,
Tell me what time you wish to travel and I'll have a look in the JR Booking system. This is only available between 6.30 and 22.30 Japanese time, so I can't do it right now but will post it ASAP. Odawara and Tokyo are pretty close and you can always line up for a non reserved seat if they are told out. Or use a local train or the Odakyu service. So don't worry :)
You can also check seat availability using http://www.jr.cyberstation.ne.jp/vacancy/Vacancy.html yourself. However you do need to be good with Japanese, or you could ask your host.
Hope this helps and let me know if I can help!
