Travelling on Budget. How may Days JR Pass 7 or 14Days

Hi,
This is my 1st time to Japan in/out - Shin Chitose Sapporo Hokkaido on 28-March thru 8-Apr. I arrived on 28-March 8.30am Flight and depart on 8-Apr at 8.30am

Following is my itinerary:-

a) 28-March to connect from Shin Chitose Airport by domestic flight 1-way to Osaka (Not sure what airport)
b) 29-March - sightseeing in Osaka + may be to Nara day trip.
c) 30 + 31 - Kyoto (2 Nites)
d) 1 + 2 Apr - Hakone Mt Fuji (2 Nites)
e) 3+4+5 - TOKYO - (3Nites)
f) 6+7 - back to In Sapporo
g) 8-Apr - Depart for my country home at 8.30am flight.

Plse kindly me when should I activate my JR Pass and my biggest concern will be whether I should get the 7 DAY PASS or the 14 DAY Pass (which I will be over paying) .
If your advise is on 7Day Pass, When and on what date should I activate my 7 DAY Pass.

Appreciate your good advice also on my planned itinerary. You may also assist me to re-arrange my itinerary to suit the 7-DAY JR Pass. As long as I get to see these cities/Mt Fuji within my dates arriving 28-March morning till Departing on 8-Apr morning return - Shin Chitose Sapporor Airport Hokkaido.

You assistance very much appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Catherine Neoh,

The routes Kyoto - Tokyo and Tokyo - Sapporo are the most expansive at using a 7 day JR Pass would be the best option, as long as you can cover these two routes with it. You could just keep your itinerary like this and use the JR Pass from March 31st - April 6th.

(Hakone is a direct stop on the route Kyoto - Tokyo).

Hope this helps,
Daniel
