Hello,
Me and my daughter are coming to Tokyo on 16 August, I'm coming from Haneda, she is coming from Narita. We booked an apartment in Shinjuku. On 25 we are going to Kyoto for 3 days and hopefully to Nara. But I would like to travel while we are in Tokyo to hotsprings near Tokyo and Mt. Fiji. So, the question is should I take JR Pass and travel with the Shinkansen? Is the pass good for the subway in Tokyo, too?
Thank you,
Liliana
Travel from Tokyo to Kyoto
Hello Liliana,
A JR Pass is recommended if you use the JR Pass to travel to Kyoto (and back to Tokyo) using the Shinkansen. The JR Pass also includes travel between Tokyo and Narita/Haneda Airports, additionally local JR lines in Tokyo are covered such as the Yamanote (Tokyo loop line) and Chuo (central) Line are included. The metro however is not included.
Hope this helps,
Daniel
