Still confused about the 7 day pass and whether or not it will be worth it for my trip. I am travelling from Tokyo to Osaka for a couple of nights and then need to head back to Tokyo (Narita) to fly back home.

Should I get the 7 day pass even though I'd only be using it for 3 days?

I also want to do a day trip to Kyoto, would the pass cover that as well?

Hi there,

I do think that the JR Pass would be beneficial for your travel, even if you just use it for 3 days.

Here's a quick breakdown of ticket prices you would pay without the JR Pass.

Narita Airport - Tokyo ¥ 3,220
Tokyo - Osaka ¥ 14,340
Osaka - Kyoto (return) ¥ 1,120
Osaka - Tokyo ¥ 14,340
Tokyo - Narita Airport ¥ 3,220

For a total of ¥ 36,240 or ¥ 6,330 in savings as the 7 day JR Pass is ¥ 29,110. The JR Pass covers travel between Osaka - Kyoto in addition to local train within Tokyo/Osaka on the JR network.

Hope this helps!
Daniel
