questions & answers: using the japan rail pass

tokyo to kyoto

Tokyo to Kyoto

Hi,

I will be leaving from Shinjuku station to Kyoto station, and have purchased the JR pass. Understand that the Jr pass does not cover the nozumi shikansen. Am wondering if you could advise the best way to reach kyoto station using the JR pass?

Much thanks for your help!

Hi there,

You can use the Hikari Shinkansen instead of the Nozomi Shinkansen, the difference is very small (just a couple more stops on the way.

There are no Shinkansen departing directly from Shinjuku station, so take a local line to either Tokyo or Shinagawa stations and get on the Shinkansen to Kyoto for there.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Much thanks for your reply. It has indeed been very useful. I also read that it may be useful to reserve seats on Shinkansen. Can i check where's the nearest place in Shinjuku that i can go to to reserve the seats?

Thanks!

Hi there,

Any station works, just go to the ticket window (in Japanese: Midori-no-Madoguchi) and tell the staff when and where you wish to travel. Show the JR Pass, and they will get you your tickets!
