Once I get off the Shinkansen Kodama at Atami, do I have to go out of the station to purchase Izu Kyuko line ticket or I can wait until I get to Kawazu to pay the differenct at ticket window (show them the JR Pass)? Thanks!

Hi there!

You can use the JR LTD. EXP ODORIKO to get from Atami to Kawazu. Normally on these sorts of JR trains that partially operate on non-JR tracks, a non-JR ticket conductor will move through the train (in this case in between Ito and Kawazu) and collect the non-JR line charges. If the conductor doesn't do this then you can pay the difference at the gate in Kawazu.

I hope this helps!

Hi there,

From Atami you can use the local JR-Lines to get to Ito, here you will have to change trains by exiting the JR station and walking to the Izu train line (both stations are beside each other) and buy tickets here before boarding the train to Kawazu.

Hope this helps,
-Daniel

:)

Good point Daniel - it depends really on the type of train you board at Atami. If you board a local service to Ito rather than a limited express train, then Daniel's advice is correct.

Hi thanks for the replies!!

I can't take the limited express because of time limit. I have to take the Kodama instead so I can arrive at Kawazu earlier. Can I just remain at the JR Atami station and hop onto an Izu line train and go directly from Atami to Kawazu instead of change train again at Ito? My plan is to take the weekday 7:26 am Kodama at the Tokyo Station and arrive at Kawazu at 9:41 am. I am following the direction and schedule from Hyperdia. Thanks.

Hi Again,

This took some time to verify but you can indeed changes lines at Ito station without having to change to an other station. Sorry about that, I stated it wrongly in my last post. The double arrow in Hyperdia means that it is most likely the same train you will be traveling on so you won't even have to change trains.

If this is not the case you will arrive on track 1 and the train will leave on track 2 on the opposite side of the platform so 2 mintutes is enough to transfer

In case they don't ask you to pay for the Izu line inside the train, then you will have to pay fare at the last station.

Hope this clears things up,
-Daniel

Daniel-san, you meant change line at the Atami station? Because Kodama will continue going west to Nagoya instead of turing south to izu hanto.

Thanks

Hello again,

My previous post was indeed referring the the transfer at Ito. When you are at Atami the only route I could find was first by JR with the transfer at Ito. I could not find a possibility to take the Izu Kyuko Line directly from Atami.

Best Regards,
-Daniel

Hi Daniel,

That is interesting. If changing train at Izu, which train am I getting off? LIke I said, Kodama doesn't travel on the JR Ito Line to Izu.

Thanks,

The only train travels from Tokyo directly to Ito to Kawazu is the Limited Express Odoriko according to the JR train schedule.

Hi Japan-newbie,

This is the route I was talking about. I think you may have seen it as well.

With the Kodama to Atami and from there with the JR to Ito and there a (possible) transfer to the Izu Kyuko Line.

Let me know is something remains unclear,
Daniel
