Hello! I'm going to Japan in February for 3 weeks, with an itinerary that looks like this:
Feb 7 - arrive in Tokyo, bullet train to Osaka
Stay in Osaka for 10 days and travel to surroundings (Kyoto & Nara)
Feb 17th - bullet train back to Tokyo
Stay in Tokyo for 11 days, leaving on the 28th.

I'm just wondering if there's a cheaper alternative to spending $539 for a 14 day pass because it's too much for just travelling; especially in Tokyo where I'm just going to stay within the area & get a suica card. Any suggestions?

Hello there,

If you made the return Tokyo - Osaka within 7 days I would say, go for a 7 day JR Pass. However now I think the better option would be to simply purchase normal tickets for Tokyo - Osaka and back.

A 14 day JR Pass would be a great option if you plan to do a bit more travel outside of the Kansai Area, think of a day trip to Hiroshima, Miyajima and Himeji.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
