Hi,

in two weeks i am starting my first visit to Japan!
I will arrive at Tokyo Narita Airport and need to go to Meitetsu Inn Chitahandaeki Hotel.

After 3 days of training i will return to tokio for another two days in tokio.

I conside to buy the JR Pass but i am not sure if it is worth for my route.
I am totally vverwhelmed with the whole rail plan.

Can someone please help me and tell me which trains i should use and if they are compatible with the JR Pass?

Best regards,
Daniel

Hi there,

The Meitetsu Inn Chitahandaeki Hotel is in Nagoya. If this is your only travel between major cities in Japan (Tokyo - Nagoya), then I would advise just buying normal train tickets.

Trains directly travel from Tokyo to Nagoya station and you can use the JR Pass for this route if you have one.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thanks for your feedback.
Yeah, we only travel between tokyo and nagoya.

But we will stay two days in tokyo and we plan to use the yamanote line to explore tokyo.
As far as i can see the Yamanote line is also included in the JR Pass, right?

I tickets for normal trains would also cost around 200€ for tokyo - nagoya - tokyo. So if we can use the Yamanote line, the JR Pass should be worth it, shouldnt it?

Best regards,
Daniel

Hi again!

The Yamanote line is only 180yen or so per ride. That translate to less than 2 Euro I think. You still have to do a ton of travel on the Yamanote line to actually make savings.

Though you could make some nice savings if you were to include a day trip somewhere for Tokyo, for instance Nikko is a great place to visit.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hi,

i think with the use of yamanote line and the nakita express to the airport it is worth buying the JR pass.

I have two more questions:
- We arrive on sunday at 10am and we fly back on the following sunday at 12am. Do the 7 days count from the activation time or on the last day until 12pm? - When we go from Narita Airport Terminal 1 to Nagoya Station, which trains / lines should we use with the JR pass? Is there a route planer which shows me only the JR lines?

Best regards,
Daniel

Hi again!

The first day of use is counted as a full day, no matter what time you start using it. So in your case it would be valid from Monday - Sunday.

You can use www.hyperdia.com, to find JR routes. We have a great guide on how to help you with this as well. Have a look at this page on how to plan with Hyperdia.
