questions & answers: using the japan rail pass

tokyo-lake kawaguchi-kyoto-hiroshima-osaka

Tokyo-Lake Kawaguchi-Kyoto-Hiroshima-Osaka

Hi I will be travelling to Japan
here's my itinerary as planned.

20th-24th Nov Tokyo
25th-26th Mt Fuji (Lake Kawaguchi)
27th-1st Dec Kyoto (NARA)
1st-2nd: Hiroshima/Miyagima
3-5 Dec: Osaka (fly back from Osaka)

1) Should I just get a one week JR pass for travel from Mt Fuji-Kyoto-Hiroshima-Osaka from 27th Nov-3rd Dec
2) Buy Regional Pass since i:m not taking a round way trip from tokyo to Kyoto.
If yes, which regional pass is advisable?

3) Buy individual train tickets instead of the pass!

thanks! It's been pretty difficult trying to analyse the terms and condition of the different passes.
would really appreciate to obtain a reply from someone!

Hi there,

I definitely recommend a 7 day JR Pass for your travels. Have a look at the following ticket prices:
Kawaguchiko (from Otsuki) - Kyoto ¥ 15,050
Kyoto - Nara (return) ¥ 1,420
Kyoto - Hiroshima ¥ 11,090
Hiroshima - Miyajima (return) ¥ 1,180
Hiroshima - Osaka ¥ 10,230

For a total of ¥ 38,970 or at least ¥ 9,860 in savings, as the 7 day JR Pass is 29,110.

Also the JR Pass will cover travel in all these areas, no need to buy any other passes.

Hope this helps,

thanks Daniel for your valuable reply! :)
