Hello! Hope you can help me with some questions.
First, I want to know if is preferable to buy the JRP. Me and my friend are arriving to Narita Airport the 13th of november. We will travel to Kyoto by 17th of november, and then to Osaka the 20th of November. We have to return back to Tokyo Narita the 23rt of November.
If you can recommend us some another places to visit in this trip, or maybe a great place to stop between my travel will be great!
Thanks you so much!
Greetings from Mexico

Hi there!

I do think that a 7 day JR Pass would be beneficial to your travels. This because a return Tokyo - Osaka/Kyoto is roughly the same price as a 7 day JR Pass. Any additional travel you do is basically what you save. You could buy a 7 day JR Pass and start using it on the 17th of November, this way your return to Kansai (area where Kyoto/Osaka are located) and Tokyo is covered, in addition you can also use the pass then on the 23rd to travel back to Narita Airport.

Some other cool places you could visit with the JR Pass would be day trips from either Tokyo or Osaka/Kyoto.
When you are in Tokyo, consider a visit to Nikko which is one of the best day trips you can make from Tokyo, in addition you will really make the most of your JR Pass as a normal return by JR is over 10,000yen!

When you are in Kyoto, consider a visit to Fushimi Inari or Nara. Both can be reached with the JR Pass.

Have a great time in Japan!

Hi again!

When you arrive at Narita Airport, this first thing of business is to activate your JR Pass at the JR ticket office which opens at 6:30. You can reserve your train tickets to Kyoto at the same time. The Narita Express departs the airport every 30 minutes to Tokyo, at Tokyo transfer to the Shinkansen to Kyoto. See route 3 as example. Which departs Narita Airport at 07:44 and arrives at Kyoto around 12:14.

Going to Hiroshima.
This is absolutely a good idea, personally I think that the city has a lot to offer. You can also make a visit to Miyajima island from there and visit the shrine there, which is one of the most iconic places in Japan. By going to Hiroshima you also make great use of your JR Pass.

As for exact schedules, trains depart very frequently for instance on the Shinkansen trains depart every 30 minutes and between Kyoto and Osaka there's a train departing every 10 minutes so there's no real need to worry about times and all. Personally I just go to the station with my JR Pass, show it to the staff and ask them to put me on the next train. If you do want the extra security of knows travel times in advance I would recommend reserving your seat a day or two in advance. The staff will than reserve the tickets for you and travel times will be printed on your ticket.

I hope this helps!
Daniel
