Hi! I'm planning to spend 9 days in Japan next month with my family. I would like to know if does it worst to buy 7 days JR rail pass taking into account that we will arrive in Tokyo and we will leave from Osaka. Our itinerary would be: Tokyo-Hiroshima-Kyoto-Osaka.
One more thing: I learnt from the forum that JR rail pass covers Tokyo-Hiroshima with one stop in Osaka. Is it difficult to change the train in Osaka? I ask because there are only 20 minutes between trains.
Many thanks,
Tokyo-Hiroshima-Kyoto Itinerary
Hi there,
Yes I do think that it would be worth it to consider a JR Pass for your travel. Here's why:
Tokyo - Hiroshima ¥ 18,560
Hiroshima - Kyoto ¥ 11,090
Kyoto - Osaka ¥ 560
+ Local travel.
For a total of ¥ 30,210. The 7 day JR Pass is 29,110 so you would already be making savings. In addition you can also use the JR Pass for local travel in Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto in addition to the ferry from Hiroshima to Miyajima. Adding a lot more to your savings.
Transferring in at Shin-Osaka when you travel from Tokyo - Hiroshima is very easy. The Shinkansen section only has a couple of train platforms, you basically go down one escalator and up the next. There are also signs with English departures, so you can't miss it. The transfer can be made in 3min and 20 should be plenty.
Hope this helps!
Daniel
