To get or not to get a JR Pass

Is it prudent to buy a JR Pass for me and my companion with this 5-day itinerary?
We land in Nagoya on Dec. 29, stay there and explore the city until Dec. 31.
Head to Tokyo on the afternoon of the 31st, stay and explore Tokyo up to Jan,1.
Visit Yuzawa snow report on Jan. 2
Go to Narita Airport for our trip back home on Jan. 3.

Is it cost-effective to get a JR Pass or just buy the tickets from the train stations?
Thanks a lot.

Hi there,

For this itinerary I would recommend buying normal tickets, as you don't cover enough miles to a point where the JR Pass would be able to help you make savings, although the difference is pretty small.

Nagoya - Tokyo ¥ 11,090
Tokyo - Yuzawa ¥ 6,670
Yuzawa - Narita Airport ¥ 9,770

For a total of ¥ 27,530. Note that I used Echigo-Yuzawa station for reference as Yuzawa is currently not used in Hyperdia. This could mean that prices might differ a small margin.
