Hi,

I am travelling to the places below. Would like to know the cost breakdown of each leg to compare it with JR Pass:

1) Narita - Shinjuku
2) Shinjuku - Gotemba (return-trip)
3) Tokyo - Nagoya
4) Nagoya - Shirakawa (return trip)
5) Nagoya - Kyoto
6) Kyoto - Osaka
7) Osaka -Himeji
8) Himeji - Kobe
9) Kobe - Osaka
10) Osaka - Wakayama (return-trip)
11) Osaka - Tokyo
12) Shinjuku - Narita

If possible, can you also advise the ideal train lines in each leg.

Hello Ryan,

Here's a quick breakdown of ticket prices:

Narita Airport - Shinjuku ¥ 3,190
Shinjuku - Gotemba ¥ 1,940
Gotemba - Shinjuku ¥ 1,940
Tokyo - Nagoya ¥ 10,880
Nagoya - Takayama (you take a non-jr bus from Takayama to Shirakawago) ¥ 6,030
Takayama - Nagoya ¥ 6,030
Nagoya - Kyoto ¥ 5,590
Kyoto - Osaka ¥ 560 (or ¥ 2,810 with the Shinkansen)
Osaka - Himeji ¥ 1,490
Himeji - Kobe ¥ 970
Kobe - Osaka ¥ 410
Osaka - Wakayama ¥ 2,890
Wakayama - Oaska ¥ 2,890
Osaka - Tokyo ¥ 14,140
Shinjuku - Narita Airport ¥ 3,190

For a total of ¥ 62,140 or ¥ 15,750 in savings, as the 14 day JR Pass is ¥ 46,390.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

The JR Pass is only for 14 days but I will be there 19 days based on the schedule below:

Day 1 - 7 (Tokyo)
Day 8-9th (Nagoya)
Day 10th-12th - (Kyoto)
Day 13th - 17th - (Osaka, Himeji, Wakayama)
Day 18th-19th (Tokyo)

Does that mean it is best I purchase the following?
Day 1-3 - Tokyo Subway 3-Day Ticket + Keisei Skyliner One-way Ticket (Limited Express)
Day 4-18 - JR Pass
Day 19 - Tokyo Subway 1-Day Ticket + Keisei Skyliner One-way Ticket (Limited Express)

Hi again!

Yes that would be for the best. There are also other alternatives for travel to Narita Airport, such as NEX return ticket.

I checked NEX Return ticket is only valid for 14 days, so it won't be ideal for me, is that correct?

If I buy Tokyo Subway 3-Day+ Keisei Skyliner Round-trip ticket, I understand that the Tokyo Subway portion is valid for 3 days only.
What about the Keisei round-trip ticket portion? Is it valid for 3 days too or based on one-time use?
This helps me decide whether to purchase a One-way or Round-trip for the Skyliner.

I checked their website and they say that tickets are valid for 6 months after purchase. So I think you will be fine buying a Round-trip.
