Hi, since hokuriku pass will only valid until June 2015, what kind of pass may I use for same purpose as hokuriku pass in Dec 2015?
Takayama Hokuriku Pass Validity
Hi there,
The Hokuriku pass is not going away as far as I know. Could you please let me know where you read about it being valid until June 2015?
Thank you!
Daniel
Hi Daniel,
I read it from here:

Hi Mardyah,
I can see how that can cause confusion. As for as I know, the pass is only getting an upload (in price and coverage area) but will remain.
Actually, the Takayama-Hokuriku Area Tourist Pass and the JR Hokuriku Area Pass are not the same. The former, as mentioned, is only valid until June. Its info is also mirrored on

Unless it is extended, which given the other pass coming out is doubtful, unfortunately. The big difference is that for the former, you can use it from Osaka and take it all the way to Nagoya. The latter sadly only covers some Hokuriku lines, although it does extend a bit into Noto, Johana and Kurobe. You'd need to also get a JR Kansai Wide Area Pass to add the trains from Osaka. One alternative also is a bus pass, but that only works out of Nagoya:

There are a number of new passes coming out in March, with some being discontinued. Unfortunately, losing the Takayama-Hokuriku Area Tourist Pass is really a step backwards for the consumer.
