Hi I am flying to tokyo (narita) at the end of january and staying at shinjuku prince hotel. I will be there for 6 nights 7 days, and was wondering if It was worth buying a pass or just paying for the daily trips.
I would like to go to Disneyland and universal studio and to and from the airport are the main destinations I would like o visit. Are taxis expensive? Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Hi there,

A JR Pass is worth considering if you travel to other cities as well, think of Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima and so on. I see you plan to visit Universal Studio Japan (or USJ) which is in Osaka. I do recommend using a 7 day JR Pass with that in mind. As the 7 day JR Pass is about the same price as a normal return ticket Tokyo - Osaka, now you get 7 days of unlimited travel for the same price.

Taxi's in Japan are fine to use for shorter distances but can cost of a lot for longer rides. It is about 400yen per KM, with a starting fare of around 700yen for the first 2km. It is generally not a smart idea to use the Taxi from the Airport into Tokyo, as it is quite a long distance.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
