My boyfriend and I are planning to do a 2 week trip to Tokyo and would love to do a Mt Fuji day trip and a Nara day trip. Not sure if a day trip to Nara from Tokyo is even possible? I'm not sure how long it takes to get there. Should we get a pass? I would appreciate any advice! Thanks! - Emily
Should I buy the JR pass?
Hi there,
I think the best thing to decide is if you will visit Nara or not, it is possible but about 4 hours away by train from Tokyo. Generally it is better to stay a night there or in cities close by, like Kyoto or Osaka.
Once you have decided on your itinerary, it becomes much easier to match a JR Pass to your trip. You can use the JR Pass Fare Calculator to find an approximate ticket cost of a single route or even your full itinerary.
Hope this helps,
Daniel
