Should I buy a Japan railpass?

Hi

I am going to Japan in the end of July/beginning of August and I've been looking at a JR pass, but I'm not sure it will be worth it. I'll be in Japan from 30th of July until 17th och August. I plan on going straight to Kyoto from Narita when I arrive, and after that I'm going to Hiroshima to stay for a week before I return to Tokyo. This means I would need a 14 day-pass and I'm not sure if it's cheaper to have the pass or just buy regular tickets.

I'm also wondering if I can use the JR pass on the local transport, because I know I'll be taking the bus in Hiroshima daily and I would like to be able to use the subway in Kyoto and Tokyo.

Hi there,

I suggest using our Fare calculator to compare the cost of your itinerary to buying a JR Pass. Travel to Kyoto and Tokyo does cost a lot and a JR Pass will quickly become a good option with a little bit more travel.

The JR Pass also covers local JR lines in Tokyo, Kyoto and in Hiroshima. Additionally the ferry to Miyajima is included, and the Hiroshima sightseeing bus.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
