A 7 day pass would pay off fine.

For Mt. Fuji though you could go to either Hakone or the Fuji 5 Lakes area for the view. Don't bother going partway up the mountain because there is nothing worth seeing when you get there. These sites have more info:

The JR Pass will be of limited value going to either. But there are discount tickets you can buy for them, as explained on the webpages.

Since you are already seeing Tokyo, you can mostly skip Osaka in the daytime - and one day is not enough to see much in Kyoto. I'd suggest you spend 1½ days in Kyoto, and a ½ day to see Nara. You can still see Osaka in the evening when the temples and shrines in Kyoto close around 5PM. Dotonbori is great at night, as is the Umeda Sky Bldg and Abeno Harukas Bldg:

You still might be able to see some cherry blossoms there - it may be crowded but they are well worth it.

Hi there,

A JR Pass works very well for your itinerary. The 7 day JR Pass is comparable in price with a normal return ticket Tokyo - Osaka using the Shinkansen. So you get in trip to Nagano for free in addition to any other travel you may do with the JR Pass.

Personally I would stay in Kyoto for the day that you have there, there's more than enough to keep you busy in Kyoto for days and spending time traveling traveling to Nara seems a bit of a waste to me. Although I am sure that Toreneko would disagree ')

While in Nagano, be sure to drop by Zenkoji Temple, it's the highlight of the city.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Actually yes, I would beg to differ. It's only 45 minutes to Nara from Kyoto, and while there is enough in Kyoto to keep you busy for a week, I guarantee that while all the temples in Kyoto can turn into a blur by the end of the day, going to see Todaiji in Nara and visiting the deer will be something you will cherish for the rest of your life.
