Hello,

I am going to be in the tokyo area for the majority of my stay. I will be traveling to Osaka with one other person from Yokohama and coming back to Yokohama a few days later. I am unsure if I should purchase the JR pass since I do not know the actual cost of a ticket going to and coming back from Osaka.

Thank you for your help!
Best, CC.

Hi,
You can see regular fares on Hyperdia.
But if that is your only travel, it wouldn't pay off. You need a bit more like a side trip to Nikko or using the Narita Express.

Hello CC,

The 7 day JR Pass is about the same price as a normal return ticket Tokyo - Osaka using the Shinkansen. With the JR Pass you get 7 days of unlimited travel for the same price. From there any additional travel basically is what you save.

You could for instance make a day trip or two to Nikko or Kamakura to really get the value out of the pass.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hi,
Just to give you the breakdown:

A 7 day full JR Pass is ¥29,110.

For regular unreserved tickets:

Tokyo to Shin-Osaka: ¥13,620
Shin-Osaka to Shin-Yokohama ¥13,290

So you'd be short by ¥2200 yen. Not insurmountable by any means, but you'd need a bit more to recoup the costs. Seeing Hakone or Kamakura/Enoshima would both be well worth it, as well as Hakone

Toraneko- I did look on Hyperdia and saw that a one way trip costs about 14,120yen without JR pass.

Daniel-san: thanks! I think I will purchase and maybe plan to visit another city. I originally was planning to only visit the tokyo area but my relatives in Osaka area wanted me to visit them. When I arrive in Osaka, they will drive us around until we go back to Yokohama.

Thanks for the responses!

Toraneko-

Thanks for the suggestions! I will definitely check those areas out to make the most out of the pass. :)
