Hi there! Im travelling 25 days in japan -from March 21 to April 15. Im planning to stay in Tokyo around 7 or 8 days. Yokohama or nearby areas included since they are really close.-
. Then Im Planning to go to Mount Fuji, Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, Saitama, Shirakawa, Nagoya, Nagano and Hokkaido -not this order but a main idea which cities i want to visit-

Is not my first time in japan. Ive been in Tokyo, Kyoto and Hiroshima before. I been in Kyoto before 3 days so its going to be only 2 days over there to complete some places left.

So i was wondering if the 14 day JR Pass would be enough since im staying 25 days in the country and with the places i want to visit. Or maybe is it worth it to pay more and use the 21 day pass and less days in tokyo, also using it on Tokyo for some trains over there -yamanote or other ones of the JR Line.

Another Thing. Is there any difference with te regional tickets or is it the same? -i mean does it cover things that the JR doesnt?

Please any advice, recommendation for other places or how many days should i stay in each place according my stay in the country would be great!!!

Thanks in Advance.

Hi Kusakun,

25 days of travel in Japan is great! Wish I could do that :)

The JR Pass covers all JR lines nation wide and is not limited to a single region (as regional passes do). In terms of a 14 or 21 day JR Pass, it is hard to say without a full itinerary. However what I can say is that the difference between a 14 and 21 day JR Pass is only 12,960 for a full week of additional travel, so it's a great option if you wish the extra flexibility.

I would also recommend a 21 day JR Pass if you plan to go up to Hokkaido, this way you have time to make stops on the way en explore Tohoku on the way up. Traveling in one go from Tokyo - Sapporo is around 10 hours, so it's better to do so with breaks.

I can give you some more suggestions if you let me know what kind of things you are interested in.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Regarding the regional passes, mostly they are JR rail only, but a few cover some non-JR lines or buses in some places. You need to specify which pass to check.
