Shinkansen ride from Kawaguchiko to Osaka

Hi,

I wanna ask:

There is an info at http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e6905.html on how to travel to/from Osaka from/to Fuji Five Lakes.

I quote:
"Take a direct Hikari train on the JR Tokaido Shinkansen from Shin-Osaka Station to Mishima Station (two hours, 12,000 yen, one direct train every two hours) and transfer to a Fujikyu bus to Kawaguchiko Station (1.5 hours, 2260 yen one way, see timetable) in the Fuji Five Lakes region. There are additional train connections between Shin-Osaka and Mishima that require a transfer along the way. Japan Rail Pass holders can save a little bit money by taking local JR trains from Mishima to Gotemba (one transfer of trains at Numazu along the way) and then board the Kawaguchiko bound Fujikyu bus at Gotemba Station (1 hour, 1510 yen one way, see timetable) instead of Mishima Station.
The Japan Rail Pass is valid on Hikari and Kodama trains along the JR Tokaido Shinkansen as well as on local JR trains between Mishima and Gotemba, but the buses between Mishima, Gotemba, and Kawaguchiko are not covered."

I tried to search through Hyperdia since I need to calculate my timing for the trip back from Kawaguchiko to Osaka, but it shows that I need to take the trains through Shin-Yokohama.
Can you please help to format the search so it confirms the info above?
Thanks!

Hi there,

I'd be more than happy to help. Could you link me your search in Hyperdia.

This way I can explain the route you have found and possible alternatives.

Hope to hear from you!
Daniel

Hi again!

I see what the problem is. Hyperdia does not know bus routes. So it will try to find the best train connection for you.

If you want to use the route explained above, then you'd have to look at traveling to Mishima. From there you can use the bus.

I looked into this route not too long ago, you can however also use the one found in Hyperdia. The difference with the above route in minimal regarding to travel time and you can make better savings using the JR Pass.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for the suggestion. I was looking for the quickest way to get back to Osaka.

Here's the one I tried, using Mishima as the starting point: http://bit.ly/1MYRYyL
I suppose option no.1 and 2 show the best (quickest) direct route.

I tried another one, this time from Gotemba: http://bit.ly/1R3AO3q
It suggests me to go through Numazu but then Shizuoka or Mishima.

Well, apparently the trip from Kawaguchiko can take very long and seems to be an arduous one.

Can you suggest any place to transit for the night on my way to Osaka?
Initially I plan for Yokohama but it seems going backwards.

Thanks for your always valuable insights.
Dwi.

Hi Dwi.

Yes the route from Gotemba - Osaka differs on what time of day you travel.

Kawaguchiko is indeed hard to access, if you are not coming from Tokyo/Yokohama.

You could stay in the Hakone Area instead. It also has a brilliant view on Fuji and there's a lot more to do as well. Then the following day, travel on to Kawaguchiko (or visit somewhere else).

Hope this helps :)
Daniel
