Hello everyone!

I will travel to Japan on February 2015. It will be my 4th time in Japan.

I plan to go to Sapporo via place and was curious about the trains going back to Tokyo.

Since this will be the 1st time I'll use a JR Pass I have a few questions:

1) What's the difference between the ordinary and green JR Pass?
2) If I travel from Sapporo to Tokyo, can someone please give me a sample of trains that I can take that's already covered in the JR Pass? The Nozomi and Mizuho is actually quite confusing as I don't know which is which.

Thanks!!

Hello there,

1.) Green Class is the equivalent of 1st class, in trains elsewhere in the world. Green Class is a very nice upgrade for Ordinary (2nd) Class and is money well spend if it's within your budget.

2.) Basically all other trains not classified as Nozomi/Mizuho are covered. Such as the Hikari, Sakura and Hayabusa Shinkansen.

We also have a handy map with all lines covered:

I saw in google maps that I can board the JR Tohoku Shinkansen from Shin-aomori going to Tokyo, so that means that is covered in the JR Pass?

I mean I don't have to pay anything extra?

Hi again!

Absolutely, the Shinkansen between Shin-Aomori and Tokyo is free with with the JR Pass. You can ride the Hayabusa Shinkansen, which is the fastest class Shinkansen in Japan!
