We will be traveling to Japan between the 24th December 2014 and 11th January 2015. Will we need to book trains and will we have problems assuming it is a busy time? Thanks.

Hello there,

Traveling around new year can get rather busy. Especially on new years day, my advice would be to reserve seats for tickets in this period at least 2 days in advance. I don't think that this should prove a problem, seeing that you'll be in Japan as of the 24th.

In apposite to western countries, Christmas is just a normal working day in Japan and generally tickets reservations are not required long in advance.

Hope this helps!
Daniel
