Question about the rail pass

I bought a 7 days JR pass last year on March 2011. But due to the unfortunate events that happened last year, I was unable to go and use the JR pass. My question is, can I still use this order for my upcoming trip this April 2012 or do I have to buy a new one?

Hi there,

The Japan Rail Pass is only valid for activation up to 3 months from the date of purchase. This means that you will not be able to use the rail pass you purchased last March for travel this April.

All is not lost however! It is possible to claim a refund on unused Japan Rail Passes up to 1 year from their date of issue - as you bought yours last march, you still have a month or so to request a refund. The refund process should be simple and fast, but please factor in the time needed to return your JR Pass to your point of purchase when you do return your pass as your issuer will need to have your physical ticket before they can refund it.

If you purchased your rail pass from jrpass.com, you should contact the support desk at [email protected]. They will be able to give you advice on how to return your rail pass, and also, given the circumstances, may be able to re-issue your rail pass free of charge.

Hope this helps!
