Hi I am planning to do a day trip from osaka to koyasan on Nov 19. I have purchased a 7day JR pass. How can I use it effectively? Which is the best route and cost-saving? I read so many articles on this and am pretty confused. Help appreciated please. Thanks.
Osaka to Koyasan - Day Trip
Hi there,
In short, the most cost effective way to use the JR Pass to travel to Koya-san is to use the JR to Hashimoto station and from there use the Nankai Express. Hashimoto is the closest you can get to Koya with the JR Pass. From there private railways run the last part.
Hope this helps,
Daniel
Thank you Daniel for the quick reply. Would you know how much it would cost on the Nankai Express and how long the journey would take? Also, understand that some of the temples serve vegetarian food, is this only for those who choose to stay there or can we also partake in it?
Hi again!
The Nankai will cost ¥ 440 from Hashimoto station. I am not familiar with vegetarian food around Koya. Japan is a land where the word almost does not exist and it may be hard to find food that does not contain meat. I would advise contacting the temple directly about this.
