I purchased a JR pass and will be staying in Kyoto. My return flight goes out of Kansai, and on my last day I wanted to go from Kyoto to Osaka, spend the day in Osaka, and then continue on to Kansai. I know there are two train stations in Osaka, and I wasn't sure which to go to (and store my bags). Also, if there's no difference, which station is closer to more interesting sites (eating mainly)? Thanks in advance!

Hi there,

I think you are referring to Osaka station and Shin-Osaka (the station for the bullet trains) station? Osaka station itself is a lot more central and is in the area called Umeda, the northern centre of Osaka. Osaka station is therefore a lot more interesting than Shin-Osaka (unless you want to do some train spotting).

I would also recommend a visit to the Namba/Shinsaibashi/Dotonbori area. It is not exactly close to Osaka but you can be there in 10 minutes using the Osaka Subway. Or use your JR Pass to JR-Namba.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
