Hello there,

A would advise a 7 day JR Pass for this option as travel from Kyoto - Nagano and Nagano - Kyoto are by far the most expencive parts of your journey. Travel between Kyoto - Osaka is only 560yen/one way.

This will also give you some extra days later on in Tokyo to use the JR Pass and I would advise making a day trip or two from Tokyo to get the most of your JR Pass. A visit to Nikko or Kamakura will both give you the best experience of your JR Pass and time in Japan.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
