Hello there,

we are planning our trip to Osaka Japan for six days.
during this trip part of our itinerary is visiting a Day tour to Kyoto and himeji castle.
and if we have an extra day perhaps Nara.

i would like to inquire what type of pass is suitable to this kind of itinerary:
Day 1: Kansai airport to Osaka
Day 2: Day tour Osaka (Namba, Shinsaibashi, Dotonbori)
Day 3: Universal Studios
Day 4: Kyoto and himeji
Day 5: Nara, tennoji and Umeda
Day 6: Rinku outlet and back to Kansai airport

would it be icoca+haruka pass with kansai wide thru pass?

we appreciate to get your feedback as this will be a big help in
fixing and finalizing our itinerary.

Thank you!

Hello there,

Since most of your travel is within the Kansai Area, look for a Kansai Pass for travel to Himeji. You can also just use an ICOCA card, as travel within Kansai is priced quite low.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hello Daniel,

thanks for your immediate response i appreciate it.

since you mentioned ICOCA card does this means that we can use this going to Universal Studios?

Hi again!,

Yes, an Icoca card would work fine for travel to Universal Studios.

Hi Owie,

The ICOCA card is simply a prepaid travel card. While the Kansai Wide Pass is an area pass that allows for unlimited travel within that area.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hello Daniel,

ok clear, thanks a lot for that info.

i read in the kansai one pass page that it is worth 3000YEN.
my question is it one day use only the 3000YEN? or unlimited travel meaning good for 3-5
consecutive days?

sorry a bit confused.

Hi again,

There are a couple of Kansai Passes, can you give me a link to the one you are talking about. This way I am sure we are not talking about different passes.

Kind regards,
Daniel

Hi again!

Yes, there are so many passes in Kansai that it gets rather confusing (I know at least of 3 others).

So the Kansai One pass basically is an ICOCA card with some extra discount options (such as 20% discount on Himeji Castle). It has 2,500yen of travel credit and this simply goes down each time you travel. You can also top it up again. The most important thing to understand here is that it does not provide a discount on travel on its own, rather it is a convenient way of travelling without having to buy a ticket each time.

The Kansai Wide Pass, is like an area pass. You pay a flat fee for unlimited travel within a certain area for a couple of days. This is useful if you would have more travel cost than the price of this pass.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hello Daniel,

can we use the Kansai Wide Pass in certain subways?
OR this only covers all JR local trains?

we are thinking of buying both ICOCA and 2 Days Kansai Wide Pass
to cover all our travels both in subways, buses and JR local trains for our own convenience.
i think Kansai Wide Pass serves a great deal espcecially if we are going to Kyoto.

let me know your thoughts on this. thank you for your patience :)

Hi again!

The Kansai pass is limited to JR lines only.

Adding the ICOCA card is a great idea!
