Hi all,

We have 6 people who are planning for a trip to Japan for 7 days 8 nights. Our rough plan is
- Day 1, 2, 3: Stay in Osaka, but 2 out of 3 days would travel to Kyoto (because kyoto airbnb are too expensive) - Day 4 - Osaka/Tokyo - Day 5 6 7 - Stay at Tokyo but will visit Mount Fuji once

We would like to ask if we should buy the Japan rail pass or not, compare to our initial plan to take local trains for long distance trips.

In addition, after scanning through the JRP guide, I believe that JRP only covers JR buses that do not operate on highway. Is this a limitation for exploring Kyoto/Tokyo and if yes, what would be the additional cost that we may need to spend

Thanks a lot for your help

Hi there,

I must say that the best option would be to simply buy normal tickets for your travels. This because the JR Pass would require a bit more travel in order to help you make savings. The JR Pass generally pays of if you can make a return Tokyo - Kyoto with it. As for as I read your itinerary, this will be one way only.

The JR Pass does cover all JR lines and local buses run by JR, however in many cities buses are run by other companies. Such as in Kyoto.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
