Hi
Hi,
We are family of 5 (parents and 3 sons) interested to go to tateyama kurobe, to enjoy the autumn. Since we only travel for 5 days around tokyo and hitachi seaside park (ibaraki), so buying jr east pass+discounted ticket to tateyama kurobe alpine route (22000¥ + 9000 ¥ + 5000¥ additional fee between joetsu myoko-toyama) is still too much for Us.
Does jr kanto area pass cover hokuriku shinkansen to nagano or as fat as joetsu myoko? If it does...is it better buying jr kanto pass then travel from tokyo and pay ekstra for nagano/joetsu myoko to toyama and buy normal ticket of alpine route (12.500¥) start at toyama dentetsu , finish at nagano and back to tokyo for free with kanto area pass?
Please corect me if you have better and cheaper way.
To travel by hokuriku shinkansen with jr kanto area pass from tokyo to toyama, do i have to stop at nagano/joetsu myoko and continue to toyama with new payable ticket OR.... we can reserve in advance from tokyo direct to toyama with extra charge between nagano/joetsu myoko to toyama without changing train?

One more thing...with jr kanto area pass does it mean we are free to travel tokyo monorai from/to haneda and other jr line inside tokyo such as yamanote line and rinkai?

Please forgive my 'thousands' questions. I hope you dont mind.

Thanks alot

Hi,
You should look at the official page. You could use it part of the way there, and then pay the difference. You can see regular fares, routes and schedules on Hyperdia. And yes, the Tokyo Monorail is covered.

Hi,
As you can see on the map listed on the official page, Nagano and Joetsumyoko are not covered - the JR Kanto Area Pass covers only part of the route. You'd need to pay an extra ¥2,810 to go to Nagano Station, and to Joetsumyoko it'd be an extra ¥4,530. The monorail and JR Yamanote line are covered, but the Rinkai Line is not owned by JR, so JR passes and tickets are not valid on it.
Tokyo has something for everyone, so it is all up to your interests. There is the site that every last tourist goes to see, the Sensoji Temple. And for good views over the city, there is the Sky Tree, though it's pricey and crowded. You could instead try Roppongi Hills, Tokyo Tower, or for free, in Shinjuku there is the Metro Gov't Bldg. Tokyo also has many famous gardens - Shinjuku Gyoen Park, Hamarikyu Gardens, Rikugien Garden, Kiyosumi, Koishikawa Korakuen and others. Akihabara is famous for electronics, Shibuya Stn and Odaiba is quite a trendy and unusual place to see as well. I suggest you go through the tourist guides and decide what you want. The government makes one, there is another based on area, and there are some from residents.

Best of luck.

Hello Toraneko san,

Another question :
I have changed my plan from tateyamakurobe to kinugawa onsen. I want to see tobu world square (traveling with kids).
1. Is it worhted to go there by one day trip from tokyo? Will kids love it?
2. Buying jr kanto area pass....i want to take there with spacia kinugawa train...is it full covered? Or l need to pay the seat fare?
3. The day before , we plan to visit hitachi sea side park by hitachi express/tokiwa (with my jr kanto area pass) If i want to upgrade to green seat. Do i have to pay extra for the seat fare only or also pay the ticket fare as well?

Thank a lot for your kindness

Cheers

Hello,
In answer to your questions, yes you can go to the Tobu World Square - I haven't yet, but most families say they enjoyed it with their kids. It only takes a few hours to see it all. Visiting other nearby places like Edo Wonderland would also be very enjoyable. Be sure to look at their website and print out their online coupon to save some more money on admission. You also might look at getting the [Kinugawa Theme Park Pass]if you visit multiple parks. The best places of Nikko however are its historical temples and shrines. They are well worth seeing, although with kids you might not want to be there for too long. I would start early in the morning to see as much as possible in a day.

For the pass, yes the Spacia Kinugawa is covered, but you will need reserved seating for that train, so be sure to go to a JR East office before your trip to set it up. All this info is again on their website - please read it - it will answer nearly all of your questions. You cannot upgrade to a green seat with the pass however. The Hitachi Seaside Park is one of the most beautiful botanical gardens in the country and you should be amazed by the place. If you have time, along the way in Mito there is also Kairokuen, a historical traditional Japanese garden you can also visit and rated as one of the Top 3 in Japan.

Bon Voyage
