Hi! My mom and I are just visiting japan for 6 days. Our flight arrives on September 6th at 3:00pm in Narita Airport. From there we will go to Tokyo stay a night or two. After which we will head to Kyoto and Nara, stay a few nights there, head back to Tokyo to spend another day, and then catch our flight at Narita Airport on September 11th.

I wish we had planned this better, and had more days to spend in japan. Would it be advisable to buy the JR pass for such few places?

Hi there,

Yes I do recommend purchasing a 7 day JR pass for your itinerary. You can make nice savings over purchasing normal tickets by using it to travel to Kyoto and Narita Airport. The pass itself is about the same price as a normal return ticket Tokyo - Kyoto using the Shinkansen and traveling to/from Narita Airport and to Nara is where savings can be made. Additionally the JR Pass can be used on the local JR Network in Tokyo.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
