Narita to Tokyo, Tokyo to Yokohama and then to Kyoto

My wife and I are traveling next week to japan and I've been told to purchase a JR pass. I'm trying to determine based on our schedule and places to visit if it makes sense.
We land on Wed August 17, 2016 in Narita International airport at 3PMish. What is the best transportation option to get to courtyard Marriott, Tokyo?
We spend two days in Tokyo and then go to Yokohama for 4 days visiting the smaller towns in the country side.
Best transportation method?

Monday we will go from Yokohama to Kyoto, spend two days visiting sites, make a day trip to Hiromshima and on Friday travel back to yokohama to fly out Friday night midnight back to the US.

Is buying a JR pass the best method or would paying for each leg of the trip be the best option? we may not go to Hiroshima and come back to Mt. Fiji on Thursday.
Thanks for your advise, can I still buy a JR pass and pick up when I arrive in Japan?

Hi there,

The JR Pass is by far the best choice for visiting Kyoto and Hiroshima. The cost of a 7 day JR Pass is about the same as a normal return trip Tokyo - Kyoto using the Shinkansen. Add to that the visit to Hiroshima and you will already be making significant savings. The JR Pass also covers travel to Yokohama and local travel within Tokyo on the JR Network.

The courtyard Marriott, Tokyo is close to Shimbashi station. I would recommend using the Narita Express from Narita Airport to Tokyo station and there transfer to the JR Yamanote line to Shimbashi station. Its about 5-10 walk from Shimbashi station.

Hope this helps,
