questions & answers: using the japan rail pass

narita to kyoto

Narita to Kyoto

Hello, I see that I can use the bullet train from Tokyo to Kyoto, how is the transfer in the train terminal? We are flying into Narita on a Tuesday at 11 AM.

Also, I guess that if I buy the Green (First class) ticket I can make my seat reservation at the Narita airport terminal? Does anyone know if this is possible?

Do trains from Tokyo to Narita run often?

Sorry for all the questions, I am so looking forward to visiting Japan.

Thank you - Mike

Hi Mike,

Tokyo station is really big and crowded, so it can be confusing. My advise is to stick to the signs that show the direction to the Tokaido Shinkansen. These are the bullet trains to Kyoto and Osaka.

When you make the transfer in reserve, just follow the signs with Narita Express.

Seat reservations can be made at any station, including Narita Airport.

Hope this helps and enjoy Japan!

The Daniel-san's explanations are always accurate and I have used with great success.
I would like to participate, commenting on our experience this same path, one year ago.

  1. Arriving in Narita, in the lobby, look for the escalator indicating JR train and go down one floor and look for the JR (green) where you should exchange the voucher
  2. The same clerk can make a reservation on the trains. NEX, which leads to a Shinkansen station and another for Kyoto
  3. I recommend you do the train transfer in Shinagawa Station, it is much easier. Climbs a ladder, walk 50 meters and down another ladder and take the Shinkansen. In Tokyo, you walk about 10 minutes !!
  4. In Narita, you take the NEX on the same floor. Be careful, because the train has marked NEX.
  5. Our flight arrived at Narita at 2:30 PM. Arrived in Kyoto Station at 7:45 PM.

Boa Viagem
