questions & answers: using the japan rail pass

name with special/ non-english characters

Name with special/ non-English characters

Hi,

My Japan rail pass missing non-english letters. My name in passport had some special polish characters like Gołębiewski/Golebiewski.

I always use on plane tickets etc, my name without special characters, so i did with Japan Rail Pass.

Do you think it can be a problem? Because now Im pretty confused.

Hi there,

This could cause confusion during the exchange process.

If you ordered your JR Pass via www.jrpass.com, please contact us via support@jrpass.com and we will give you an accompanying letter to explain the situation.

If you have purchased the JR Pass elsewhere, please contact your point of sale directly.

Hi, i bought it elswere. They are assuring me its not a problem.

There will be no problem with the exchange of your voucher.
As it is special letters, the JR won't say anything.

So im looking to confirm that

I can't say for sure, that's why we provide a special letter.

However the exchange process is not as strict as airline for instance, so I would think its okay.
