Mrs

Hello,
My family will be adventurous the "do it your own" 7 days vacation travel to Japan this coming April...My officemates who have been to Japan advise me to buy the 7 day JR pass. My itinerary is: Day 1 -arrival kansai airport in the am.. start touring Osaka Day 2 - spend whole day at Universal studios Day 3 - spend day and tour kyoto then go back to osaka same day Day 4.- spend extra day touring Osaka Day 5 transfer to tokyo in a.m. then start touring tokyo Day 6 spend whole day at Disney Sea Day 7 half day tour to mount fuji then back to tokyo, departure night Haneda airport

with this itinerary do you advise me to get JR pass and save on transportation fee?
Can I use JR pass using the railway system within osaka and tokyo?

Thank you.

Hi there,

For this itinerary I would stick with buying normal tickets. A JR Pass works great if you make a return Tokyo - Osaka but it is better to buy normal tickets when travelling one way.

That said, the JR Pass would cover nearly all your travel, including the bullet train between Osaka and Tokyo.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thank you for your quick reply and assistance...but for clarification regarding "normal tickets" ...Do you think buying the JR pass would suffice to cover my means of transport to kyoto-osaka-kyoto, osaka-tokyo, tokyo-mt fuji-tokyo and transport touring the city of osaka and tokyo? or i need to supplement with others means of passes like the pasmo/suica card? Would great appreciate your advise since I want to spend wisely our budget for transportation fees...thanks again

Normal tickets, as in tickets you would buy while travelling.

While the JR Pass covers most of your route, it is simply cheaper to buy normal tickets, as they cost less than the cost of a 7 day JR Pass here.
