Most cost effective way to travel around Japan using this iterinary

Hello all,

I'm planning my 14 day trip to japan this year in April and was wondering if a JR pass for 14 days would be cost effective.
My destinations in the following order include Narita airport, Tokyo (4-5 days), Kyoto (2days), Kobe (1day) and Osaka(3days) then back to Tokyo . As you might notice, my current iterinary does not add up to 2 weeks so I'm open to suggestions for other great destinations to visit! I'm really excited about this trip as i fell in love with tokyo during my last visit that was only for 3 days unfortunately.

Hi there,

I think the best option would be to buy a day JR Pass for Kyoto, Kobe, Osaka and the return to Tokyo. Then buy normal tickets for travel within Tokyo. This way you can use the JR pass to cover all your (otherwise) expansive trips and explore Japan in the most cost effective way.

I think adding Kanazawa to your trip would be a nice addition but it would require re-planning a little in order to fit it in the 7 day JR Pass.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hello Daniel,

Just to clarify, just a day JR Pass to go to Kyoto, Kobe, Osaka and our return to Tokyo from Osaka? So 4 JR passes in total? What about from Narita Airport to Tokyo? Thank you for the suggestion! Will definitely check it out.

Cheers.

Hi again,

I mean using a 7 day Japan Rail Pass for Tokyo - Kyoto - Kobe - Osaka - Tokyo. Then buy normal tickets for local travel and for the one way Narita Airport - Tokyo.

Hope this helps too,
Daniel
