Miyajima and Peace Park

Two questions
Is it possible to do both miyajima and the peace park in one afternoon from Hiroshima and what would be the best way to do it.

Also if we did that, then travelled from Tokyo to Nikko (for a couple of days) return, then a day trip Tokyo to Kamakura, would it be worth purchasing a 7 day jr pass.

Hi there,

Although it is possible to visit Miyajima and the peace park in one afternoon, I would not recommend it. Many of the temples are places close around 5 pm and travel between both takes between 30-60 minutes. So there would not be enough time to really enjoy most places. I would advise choosing one and make the most of your visit that way.

Yes a 7 day JR Pass would work very well if you did that, as it covers both travel from Hiroshima - Tokyo and Tokyo - Nikko, you'd also make good savings over normal JR tickets.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

thanks Daniel. I should have mentioned that we are on a tour. And we go from Hiroshima to Osaka, then fly to Tokyo. So the use of JR train would only be the side trip to Miyajima from Hiroshima, visiting Nikko after the tour, and doing one or two day trips from Tokyo.

so would it still be cost effective to buy a pass?

Hello Again!

In that case it would be better to buy normal tickets for your rail travel. The part Osaka - Tokyo is the most expansive part, so without it, the JR Pass not longer works that well.
