Hello good afternoon,

I travel itinerary in November already and I need to know whether to buy the JRPass, because I know if I get profitable purchase. I hope I can help to clarify.

The route is as follows (23 days)

Tokyo-Fuji-Takayama Shirakawa-go (bus) / Alde Hida No Sato (bus) or -Kurobe Kamikochi-Jigokudani-Kyoto-Nara-Arashiyama-Hiroshima-Tokyo-Osaka-Kayosan

Thank you very much in advance

Raquel

Hi Raquel,

You'll be traveling quite a bit. Still I am a bit unsure about your itinerary. For instance, after Hiroshima why do you plan to go to Tokyo. In terms of routing, it would make a lot more sense to stop first at Osaka/Koya and then travel to Tokyo. The same applies for visiting Kamikochi/Matsumoto first and then travel on to Takayama.

Having said that, you will do plenty of travel and the JR Pass can help you make nice savings.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thank you very much Daniel-san for so immediate response
I was wrong with the route, the final destination of the journey is serious tokyo:

Tokyo-Fuji-Takayama Shirakawa-go (bus) / Alde Hida no Sato (bus) or -Kurobe Kamikochi-Jigokudani-Kyoto-Nara-Arashiyama - Osaka-Kayosan-Osaka-Tokyo

Sorry an error and thank you very much

Hi Raquel,

I was a bit surprised about it but this looks much better. In regard t the JR Pass, I don't know if going for a 21 day JR Pass right away is the best option. I can find the best way to match a JR Pass to your itinerary if you have a day-by-day overview for me.

Like:
Day 1 - Tokyo
Day 2 - Matsmoto etc.

Thanks again Daniel-san

Day 1-5: Tokyo
Day 6-7: Fuji
Day 7-10: Takayama
Day 11: Jogokoudoni
Day 12-18: Kyoto (Nara, Arashiyama ..)
Day 19-21: Osaka
Day 21-23: Tokyo

Thanks for the help!

Hi Raquel,

This helps a lot. I tried to match a JR Pass to your itinerary and ideally you would one to use from day 7 - 21 (15 days in total). However while in Kyoto, you won't be able to use to the JR Pass for much and all together ticket prices are below the price of a 21 day JR Pass.

You can still consider a JR Pass if you would travel more, such as by adding a visit to Hiroshima from Kyoto.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thank you!
Is there any way to know, or if you can tell me which of these paths I can use the JR?

Maybe consider going to Miyajima and Hiroshima also
It would be great if we were worth the 14 days since we much the price rises Jr 21 days

Thank you!

Yes you can use jrpass.com/map to find all lines covered by the JR Pass.

In your itinerary nearly all is included.

Parts that are not are travel from Nagano - Jigokudani and possibly local travel around Fuji.

A JR Pass will be well worth it if you include Hiroshima/Miyajima in your plan.

Go for the 14 day JR Pass if you can return to Tokyo within 14 days, otherwise opt for the 21 day JR Pass.

One last question, and sorry because I know I'm heavy with the issue.
Is there any way to calculate so fast more or less the price of tickets from all paths without the JR?

Yes - You can use Hyperdia.com to find prices for rail travel. See this page for all the details.

For other places not reached by rail, more research is needed. A Google search with [Place name + access] is a good start.

Hi again,

I just checked your itinerary and recommend using a 14 day JR Pass. Be sure to cover at least travel from Tokyo - Takayama and Osaka - Tokyo with it, in order the make the best possible savings.

Hope this helps :D

Yes, travel to Takayama is covered by the JR Pass. You can also use to JR Pass for excursions for Takayama, for instance to Gero-Onsen.

Hope this helps ;)
