Luggage size for Bullet Train and JR

Hi,

I would be travelling from Narita Airport to Osaka through Shinkansen and JR.
However, I am concerned about my luggage size is too big for JR.
I am using a 29inch luggage 50cm (L) x 77cm (H) x 30cm (W).

My travelling would be done during off peak hours.

It would be a great help if you are able to advise me on whether should I get a smaller 25 inch luggage for me trip.

Thanks :)

Hi there,

Both the Shinkansen and Narita Express to Tokyo have a special luggage compartment in each train cabin for large luggage. So I think that you will be perfectly fine with a 29inch suitcase or bag.

The Narita Express even comes with a special rack to which you can lock your luggage, so you don't have to worry about somebody taking your bag by accident. Here's a picture.

Enjoy :D

Daniel-san,

Thank You for your reply.

My next question would be what about the luggage space for the normal JR stations?

As my hotel are located at Shinjuku Station and Nagahoribashi stations.

Thank You :)

Hi again :)

Train stations in Japan are well equipped with coin lockers. Every station I've ever visited had coin-lockers available which is very convenient. Prices range between 300-800 yen/day depending on size. Sizes range between bag size all the way up to full suitcase size.

I would however recommend packing lightly as possible when you venture out of your hotel and leave your luggage in the room. This way it's easy to get around and you can use your yen for Sushi instead ;)

Hope this helps!
Daniel
