Hi,

I lost my Japan Rail Exchange Voucher during my travels (I have not reached Japan yet). I am in Taipei and will arrive in Osaka on July 9th (3 days from now). Please let me know if a) I could be re-issued my exchange vouchers (I ordered for three people) or b) if you could mail it to either my hotel in Taipei or my hotel in Osaka.

Thank you!

Best,
Lucia

Hello Lucia,

I am very sorry to hear about your loss! Unfortunately it is not possible to issue a new voucher. However we can issue a refund for the lost vouchers after the validity period has expired, please contact us at [email protected] and we can sort the details together.

What you could do is place a new order which we can ship to you in either Taipei or Osaka, just be sure the place the order before arriving in Japan. I would also ask you to contact us at [email protected] if you wish us to ship it to Japan.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Thank you for the reply! I've asked someone to ship my vouchers to me at my hotel in Taiwan and it should arrive tomorrow in time for my arrival in Osaka on the 9th.

I have a question, since I have the 7 day pass, while we are in Osaka, we're planning to go around Osaka (2 days) and then travel between Kyoto, Nara, and Kobe -does it make sense to supplement our stay with a Kansai Thru Pass? We'll also be in Tokyo afterwards for 3 days. What are our options to gain access to the metro/local trains that the JR Pass doesn't cover? Do you think we'll need a card/day pass for the metros or if our JR pass will be sufficient and we can cover the rest of the metro/local train trips through buying individual tickets?

Thank you!

Best,
Lucia

Hi again!

Glad to hear that it worked out!

As for travel around Kansai, I'd stick to normal tickets or use an IC card such as ICOCA to make your life a little more convenient. Will you be arriving at Kansai Airport? In that case also consider an ICOCA + Haruka package which gives you a discounted ticket on the Haruka Express and also a pre-charged ICOCA card.

The ICOCA card is also valid for local travel within Tokyo almost every kind of transport, it's really a good solution for the entire trip.

Hope this helps!
Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Thank you very much for all your help! I apologize for all the questions but here's a few more for you:

I am indeed arriving at Kansai airport but I thought that with the JR Pass, which I plan to activate when I arrive - the Haruka is free and therefore I might not need the Haruka express ticket?

Also, where would I be able to ICOCA card once I 'run out' of the pre-charged amount? And when you say that it's valid for local travel within Tokyo, do you mean with the same card I would purchase at Kansai Airport?

Thank you!

Best,
Lucia

Hi again!

Yes the Haruka is indeed included in the JR Pass. You could still buy a seperate ICOCA card at Kansai Airport when you activate your JR Pass for easy travel.

The ICOCA card can be re-charged at any ticket machine, even if you are already on the train platform.

Best!
Daniel
