Kyoto station to Saga-Arashiyama- Reservations needed?

From Daniel's helpful posts in other threads, I know that we will mostly be using buses to get around Kyoto, probably using the 500yen card.

We'll be going out to Saga-Arashiyama for lunch one day, and hyperdia tells me there are two fast trains an hour ("Sagano line express service" on the 07 and 17, looks like, taking about 11 minutes with no changes), and maybe one or two express trains, Sagano Line which takes 16 minutes with no changes

Will those be covered by our JR pases? And if so, do we need to make a reservation in advance or will it be OK to just show up at the correct time?

Thanks,
Lettezilla

Hi Lettezilla,

Travel between Kyoto station and Saga Arashiyama is done using local trains. Which don't have seat reservations. Just go to the station and hop on. This applies to both the normal (16/17min) and rapid (11min) service.

The route is covered by the JR Pass.

Hope this helps!
Daniel

Thank you, Daniel. I thought that was probably the case but didn't want to guess wrong!
