Hi,

Travelling with my husband and 2 daughters age 11 and 5.

I am travelling to Tokyo and arriving on the 11th April and staying for 2 days till 12th April

on 13th April i am leaving for Hakone and staying in Hakone till 15th April

16th April i leave from Hakone and go to Osaka and that is our base. From there we are planning day trips to Kyoto, Nara and Hiroshima.

My question is if I activate the Japan Rail pass on the 13th to get to Odawara but do not use the Japan Rail pass on the 14th and 15th will the pass still be valid for use on 16th?

If not when should i ideally activate the pass and how to save money the most. Also is there any way that I can use the JR pass in Hakone on 14th and 15th to keep it active?

regards
kshitija

Hello there,

The JR Pass is valid for 7 consecutive days, meaning it will keep counting down whether you use it or not. Travel from Tokyo - Hakone does not cost a lot, especially if you just use local trains. My advise would be to start using the JR Pass once you depart Hakone/Odawara station in order to get the best use out of the JR Pass.

The JR Pass can be activated at Odawara station.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
