questions & answers: using the japan rail pass

jr pass validity at certain places

JR pass validity at certain places

Hello, my name is Rachel and I will be traveling to Japan this coming summer.
I am looking into visiting the following places.

Arriving at Narita Airport
Sasebo
Fukuoka
Isahaya
Kyoto
Nikko
Matsue
Hachinohe-shi in Aomori

I am aware that the faster bullet trains are not covered on the JR pass. Same with the buses and local trains.
However, is it still possible to get to (and around) these places using the JR pass? Or do I have to pay extra for separate lines?

I would greatly appreciate an answer please and thank you!

Rachel

Hi Rachel!

Yes, as a rule only the Mizuho and Nozomi bullets are not covered by the JR Pass. You can find full validity details here.

Yes - all of your destinations are covered by the Japan Rail Pass. You will not have to pay any extra.

Hope this helps!

Thank you so much!
Now I just have one more question.
Do you know where I can find a map of Japan that contains ALL the accessable JR lines for the pass??

Hi there,

This official JR map is by no means exhaustive, but it should serve as a general guide. It doesn't show local trains and many smaller lines, as well as not showing the bus routes that are available.

Hope this helps!
