Hi,

I would like to travel 7 days in Japan that cover tokyo until osaka. basically I yet to confirm my itinerary.
I land at Haneda Airport and come back to my country via Kansai, Osaka
So the draft is like below :

Day 1 : Tokyo

Day 2 : Tokyo - Fuji - Lake Kawaguchiko - Tokyo

Day 3 : Tokyo - Shirakawago - Nagoya - Tokyo

Day 4 : Tokyo - Kyoto

Day 5 : Kyoto

Day 6 : Kyoto - Osaka

Day 7 : Osaka

Question
1. Worth or not for me to take the JR pass ?
2. How about to travel in city like Kyoto and Osaka. I heard that not so many can cover via JR in cities. If that so, can you suggest what pass should I take for Kyoto & Osaka. In fact, for Tokyo also.

Thanks a lot !

Hi there,

1.) I checked your itinerary for the best option and you could consider a 7 day JR Pass if you keep the current itinerary. However what I would recommend looking at, is day 3. Going from Tokyo - Shirakawago and back is nearly impossible, there is just too much travel time involved. My advise would be to travel to Takayama first, then stay the night there make a day trip to Shirakawago and return to either Takayama or Nagoya before nightfall. However if you would travel on to Kyoto from Nagoya (without returning to Tokyo) then it would be better to buy normal tickets as you travel.

2.) The JR Pass works really well in Osaka in Tokyo, most places can be visited with the JR Pass. In Kyoto I'd advise buying a 500yen bus ticket.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thank Daniel-san for your explanation !

So, i think it is not worth for me if taking JR pass since I only travel Tokyo-Osaka one way. What do you think ?

If i take out shirakawago from the list, what is best option to do day trip from tokyo ?

Hi Daniel-san !

Again need your expertise to review this plan

Day 1
Tokyo

Day2
Tokyo-Fuji-Tokyo

Day3
Tokyo-Yokohama-Nagoya-Tokyo

Day4
Tokyo-Kyoto

Day5
Kyoto-Osaka (Option 1)
Kyoto-Nara-Osaka (Option2)

Day6
Osaka

Day7
Osaka-Hiroshima-Osaka

Question :
1. Take Jr pass or single ticket is enough ?
2. Are these itinerary are too rushing or possible to be done ?

Hello again!

In this case a 7 day JR Pass offers amazing value! A quick breakdown: Tokyo - Nagoya is about 20,000yen, Tokyo - Kyoto 13,400yen and a return Osaka - Hiroshima 21,000yen! The price of a 7 day JR Pass is 29,100! So it's really good! This is excluding any local travel you may do with it as well.

Some parts seem a bit busy, especially day 3, so you could leave out Yokohama or Nagoya. For the rest it does look good though :)

Hope this helps,
Daniel
