Should i avail the 7-day JR pass given my itinerary as follows:

day 1 narita to osaka
day 2 usj
day 3 osaka to tokyo
day 4 tokyo city tour
day 5 tokyo to narita

Having JR pass is more economical than the normal ticket? Please advise. Thanks a lot!

Hello there,

In short, yes the JR pass will work well for this itinerary. A 7 day JR Pass is about the same price as a normal return ticket Tokyo - Osaka with the Shinkansen. Any additional travel is basically what you save, for instance travel between Tokyo - Narita Airport, local travel and the train to USJ. All these amounts can add to a very nice amount in savings.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thanks so much Daniel.

II can also use 7-day JR pass from Narita Airport to Shinagawa?

Would it be logical to add kyoto in the morning say i calibrate my itinerary in this way?

day 1 narita-shinagawa-osaka
Which is best namba area or shinsaibashi area for hotel near JR sta and USJ accessibility)? day 2 usj and night city strolling
day 3 kyoto (kyoto station only) then travel back to tokyo
day 4 tokyo city tour
day 5 narita airport departure

thanks really for your help. I need your inputs to shape up my short travel in Japan. Cheers!

Hi again!

Yes the JR Pass covers the Narita Express between Narita Airport and Shinagawa.

Namba and Shinsaibashi are within walking distance from each other, staying near either is great. JR Namba is the closest JR Station, so it's best to take the train from there.

Any special reason why you plan to visit Kyoto station? It's an impressive building but I don't know if it would be worth a visit by itself.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

thanks for asking, i have only sole reason in visiting kyoto station, that is to snatch a few hours from Osaka to have a snap visit in Kyoto given i have 7-day JR Pass (to maximize my day 3 as cited above) and since i have to go back to Tokyo on the same day for my city strolling as my last day of tour (need to rush in the next morning for return flight).

am open to new ideas just to add new places without compromising the tight schedule. cheers!

Well Kyoto can be nice for a stopover but 3 hours is pretty short. What you could do though in Kyoto is store your luggage at the station take a taxi to one of the local sightseeing placed and take a taxi back in order to maximize your time there. I would for instance recommend a visit to Kyomizudera temple.
