Dear JR expert,

I have a plan to visit Japan (Tokto, KAwaguchi-ko, Kyoto and Osaka) on July and buy JR pass.
First 3 days I will stay at Dai Ichi Seafort Hotel Shinagawa which located nearby Tennozu Isle.
May I ask about:
1. Can I use my JR pass from Haneda to my hotel using monorail, to miraikan and to osaki station?
2. Can I use my JR pass for Yamanote line?
3. How to get to Kawaguchi-ko from Tokyo
4. How to get to Osaka from Kawaguchi-ko using JR pass? (the fasted track)
5. Can I use my JR pass in Kyoto and Osaka?

Thank you so much

Hello Hannah,

I see you have a couple of questions, let's get started with them right away.

1.) Yes the JR Pass covers the Monorail from Haneda to Tennozu island.

2.) Yes, the Yamanote line is covered by the JR Pass.

3.) Going to Kawaguchiko is where things become a little more complicated. Using the JR Pass it is best to travel first to Otsuki station and take the Fujikyu line from there to Kawaguchiko. The JR Pass covers the train to Otsuki but you will need a normal ticket for the Fujikyu line (1,140yen). Here's the route from Shinagawa - Otsuki with the JR Pass.

4.) This is a pretty long route. Using the JR Pass, it's best to return to Tokyo and take the Shinkansen from there to Osaka. The full route can be found here. If possible, consider visiting Kawaguchiko as a day trip from Tokyo and travel to next day to Osaka, alternatively you could visit Hakone instead of Kawaguchiko, as it is directly on the route between Tokyo and Osaka.

5.) The JR Pass can be used on JR lines in and around Kyoto and Osaka. Other transport such as the subway is not covered. In Kyoto there's only limited service but you can see most of Osaka using the JR Pass. See our maps page for more details.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thank you so much Daniel-san for your very helpful explanation.

Can we see mt. Fuji from Hakone?

If we stay one night in Kawaguchi-ko and come back to Tokyo for heading Osaka in next day is it an okay plan?

Thank you

Hi Hannah,

Yes Hakone is a great viewing point for Fuji. Fuji actually looks a bit better from a difference than close up. That's of course weather permitting.

You could stay one night in Kawaguchiko and travel on the next day to Osaka. This will take 5-6 hours of train travel with multiple transfers, it's up to you if you want to do that in a single day.

Enjoy!

Dear Daniel-san

Thank you so much for helpful explanation.

I hope its okay with you if I ask another question and another more :-)

A friend told me that its better to take bus to and from Tokyo-Kawaguchi, from Shinjuku West Bus Terminal.

Is it correct? And is the bus covered by JR pass (but its okay if its not, as long as is the fastest track we could get).

Thank you Daniel-san

Hello Hannah,

There's indeed a bus from Kawaguchiko to Shinjuku. However I am not sure if this is the fastest route. The bus takes about 1h45m but you will also have to travel from Shinjuku to Tokyo or Shinagawa stations to board the Shinkansen, this to will take 30-60+ minutes. The bus is not included in the JR Pass and costs 1740yen.

Hope this helps ;)
Daniel
