Hi,

We're going to Kansai during this coming Feb 2015 and I wondering which pass is the best suit for our itinerary. I recently saw JR Takayama Hokuriku Pass and may I know how long does it take to travel from Shin Osaka to Kanazawa, next take the bus from Kanazawa to Takayama? And also, besides JR Hokuriku Pass, which pass is the best for us to explore Kansai Area?

Day 1 Arrive at Kansai Int Airport > Staying in Shin Osaka
Day 2 Travelling from Shin Osaka to Takayama > going to Shirakawa-go > back to Takayama
Day 3 From Takayama > Shin- Hotaka > back to Takayama
Day 4 From Takayama > Back to Kyoto
Day 5 Kyoto > Osaka
Day 6 Osaka
Day 7 Osaka > Kobe > Osaka
Day 8 Osaka to Kansai Int Airport

Hi there,

Traveling from Osaka - Kanazawa takes around 168 Minutes from there it takes an other 90 minutes or so by bus to Shirakawago and an other 1h+ by bus to Takayama. There are not always direct connection available so plan ahead!

You could consider the Hokuriku pass, however keep in mind that it only covers travel between Osaka - Takayama via Kanazawa and bus via Takayama, this adds a ton of extra travel time. Possibly you could use the pass one way and buy normal tickets for the trip back.

I'd advise buying normal tickets for travel in Kansai, all cities are very close and local tickets don't cost much!

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hi Daniel-san,

Thanks for your reply! It's really a great help :) May I know how long hours should we stay in Shirakawa-go? Is there any nice attractions to visit? As we're thinking if we need to stay a night there, or just staying in Takayama or Kanazawa and take a bus to Shirakawa-go for a few hours trip.

For Kansai area, I've seen people buying Kansai Thru pass, JR Kansai Area pass, and also day trip ticket. Which pass enable us to take both railway and buses? And I've heard some of them said we can get any discounts on entrance ticket if we purchase JR Kansai Area pass and Kansai Thru pass. Hereby provided with our itinerary and may I know which pass suit us the most?

Day 4 : Arashiyama > Pontocho > Gion District > Nishiki Market

Day 5 : Fushimi-Inari Taisha Shrine > Kinkaku-Ji > Ginkaku-Ji > Kiyomizu-dera > Philosopher's Path > Osaka > Dontonbori

Day 6 : Osaka Castle > Universal Studio Osaka > Umeda Building Tower

Day 7 : Momofuku Ando Instant Ramen Musuem > Kobe > Kitano ijinkangai > Kobe Tower > Osaka > Shinsaibashi

Day 8 : Osaka > KIX Int Airport

Hi again,

Shirakawa-go is very beautiful and it's great to stroll around there for a couple of hours, however I would not spend there more than 5 hours, as you'll be able to see everything in that amount of time. Staying a night there is a great experience and the evening light up is beautiful.

In Kyoto I'd advise buying day tickets the for bus, they are 500yen each and allow for unlimited travel on the Kyoto bus. Unlike other cities, the bus in Kyoto is the main way for transport.

You could look at the Osaka Unlimited Pass for your travel around Osaka. It covers the subway and gives free access to many attractions.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hi Daniel-San

Thank you so much :D your kindness is greatly appreciated! We're planning to stay a night in Shirakawa-go and do you have any nice suggestions on hotel or ryokan?

Can we purchase both Kyoto normal ticket , Osaka Unlimited Pass and JR Takayama Hokuriku pass on this website?
