Hi there,

I will be traveling to Japan in September and will be landed at Kansai Airport, I am planning to travel to Tokyo for 2days upon arrival and back to Osaka for 3days. This is my very first visit to Japan, thus I would be greatly appreciated if you can advise the following:

  1. Is the JR 7 days pass the best and most economical option?
  2. Is there any JR train from Kansai airport to Tokyo JR station?
  3. Do I need to purchase a JR west ticket to move around Osaka?

Thank you

Best regards
LT

Hi LT,

1.) I do think that the JR Pass would be the best way to travel around as you would just need one ticket for all your travel and make some savings over normal JR Tickets as well! You can use it to travel to/from to Airport, to Tokyo and on local JR lines in Osaka.

2.) To get to Tokyo from Kansai Airport, take the Haruka Express to Shin-Osaka, here you can transfer to the Shinkansen (bullet train) directly to Tokyo. Here is the full route. This route is fully covered by the JR Pass.

3.) The JR West pass is not recommended if you just stay in Osaka and better suited for traveling around the bigger cities in Kansai.

Hope this helps!
Daniel
