Hi there, I am arriving in Tokyo on the 28th and am then going from Tokyo to Nozawa Onsen on the 1st. I am not going to pick my pass up until the 1st so it's valid to return to Tokyo on the 14th. I wondered if it's possible to use the pass to go and see the snow monkeys from Nozawa and could I get to Kyoto using the pass also and if so how long does that take? Many thanks!!!

Hi there,

The JR East Nagano Pass only covers travel within the Nagano area. While you can use it to travel to Nagano station, you will still have to use normal tickets from Nagano to the snow monkey park, as there are no JR lines there.

Kyoto, lies in a completely different direction and is not covered by the JR East Nagano Pass. Instead, I would recommend using a 7 day JR Pass if you want to include Kyoto to your trip.

For travel times, I recommend learning to plan with Hyperdia this way you can find any route/timetable and more. It's a great tool for planning with the JR Pass. We also have a useful interactive map with all JR lines included.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
